Manchester United's shockingly low opening bid for Alex Telles 'didn't even receive a response from Porto,' according to stunning reports in Portugal.

The Red Devils have been heavily criticised over their business in the transfer window as Donny van de Beek remains their only major summer signing.

But Porto left-back Telles is on United's shopping list as the Premier League side hope to seal a deal before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reports that United lodged a £12m bid for the 27-year-old Brazilian defender.

The Red Devils' reported offer didn't sit well with Porto as United didn't even hear back from the Portuguese club.

Porto are believed to be holding out for at least £18m for Telles, despite the Brazil international being out of contract next summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reinforce his squad options before the window closes as United are set to miss out on marquee signing Jadon Sancho.

United have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old English star throughout the summer and reportedly had their latest bid rejected by Borussia Dortmund.

United have also been linked with Arsenal starlet Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic.

Red Devils legend Gary Neville launched a scathing attack on the club over their poor business in the transfer window.

The 45-year-old Sky Sports pundit tweeted today that United needed at least three more signings before the window shuts.

Neville wrote: "It's appalling that in this market which is probably the easiest in PL history to get transfers done that United haven't done more yet!

"They must get Ole a CB, LB and Forward [sic] pre deadline! The others are managing to get things over the line why not United!"

United will return to action on Wednesday as they travel away to Brighton for their League Cup clash at the Amex.
