Manchester United and Arsenal could find themselves playing in the Champions League even if they finish fifth in the Premier League.

After all, Manchester City could face the prospect of not playing in the tournament next season.

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has insisted that action will be taken against the reigning Premier League champions "very soon," especially for the club's usage of sponsorship deals to bypass Financial Fair Play regulations.

According to Sky Sports, City face the possibility of being banned from Europe's premier competition as a result of any breach.

If that does happen, then the team that finished in fifth place would secure a spot in the Champions League for the 2019-20 season.

Of course, the fifth-place team would only qualify if City finish in the top four.

Sky Sports has reported that Čeferin claims that he has a "concrete case" against City and will take action.

The club breached FFP in 2014, with another violation leading to a potential ban from the competition.

"A club which is not admitted to the competition is replaced by the next best-placed club in the top domestic championship of the same association, provided the new club fulfils the admission criteria," reads Article 4.08 of UEFA's 'Admission criteria and procedure.'

Earlier this week, Pep Guardiola's side delivered a massive blow to Liverpool's title challenge after defeating Jürgen Klopp's side at the Etihad Stadium.

While Reds fans were disappointed with the result, almost every other football fan was happy to see them lose.
