Fabio Coentrao didn't take being substituted very well to say the least.

The 29-year-old left-back transferred away from Real Madrid last summer, completing a season-long loan at Sporting Lisbon.

Though his latest appearance for Sporting didn't end well.

The Portuguese outfit traveled to Kazakhstan on Thursday night in their first leg of the Europa League round of 32 tie.

And Sporting secured advantage heading into next weeks return leg by bagging three away goals against Astana, courtesy of Bruno Fernandes, Gelson Martins and Seydou Doumbia who netted goals in the space of seven second half minutes.

But just before the hour mark, one of the main talking points.

With his side 3-1 up, Jorge Jesus dragged off Coentrao who reacted by, firstly, throwing punches at the dug-out before bursting into tears.

Following the result, Coentrao took to social media to apologise for his actions.

"Not always, inside the field, things run as we want. We went to the fight, we were not happy and that made us angry.

He added: "I live each game as if it were the last of my life. I do not like to lose, let alone when it is forbidden to do so. I want to be champion for my Sporting CP. I felt frustrated and reacted as I am, authentic and genuine.

"I'm a man and not a machine. I apologise for all those who are part of the Family Sportinguista for what we did and for some attitude less reflected in the game in Setubal.

"The sorrow and revolt at what happened yesterday continue, and I thought of all those who, in the stadium or on television, also felt the same as I did.

"The future is already the next game on Wednesday. The destiny of all of us, Sportinguistas, is to be happy. And let's be, with attitude and commitment. Our union is still steel!"
