Houston Alexander Casually Performed Chokeslam On Opponent In UFC Fight

He's the only man to perform the move in the Octagon...

There are a lot of similarities between MMA and professional wrestling than a lot of MMA purists would like to admit.

Conor McGregor, the UFC's biggest star, has basically stolen the persona of 80's and 90's Ric Flair to become the trash-talking phenomenon that he is today, while the likes of Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler and Matt Riddle have had success in both worlds.

You also see a lot of the same holds and submissions utilised in both environments, rear-naked chokes, kimura locks, omoplata and armbars to name just a few.

But one manoeuvre you would probably not expect to see in the Octagon is a chokeslam - most commonly used by legends such as Big Show, Kane and the Undertaker.

However, a recent video from 'theMmaPromoGuy' shows Houston Alexander using that very move in a fight with Thiago Silva from UFC 78 in 2007.

Check it out around 1 minute and 11 seconds into the following video:

Though the technique and execution are slightly different, it's the same move that ends up with the same result - the opponent being picked up the neck and slammed onto the canvas.

It is probably the second best instance of a WWE move being incorporated into a proper MMA scrap, as during the Full Contact Contender 19 event in Bolton back in October 2017, Jonno Mears channeled his inner Chris Jericho by putting his opponent Aaron Jones away with the deadly 'Walls of Jericho' submission.

Breaking the walls down! He gets his opponent on his stomach, bends his legs and sinks into the painful submission, forcing Jones to tap out immediately.

Jericho himself even gave his seal of approval on social media.
