Harry Redknapp Wants Sam Allardyce to Recall John Terry And Give Him The England Captaincy

The Chelsea legend hasn't been in the England frame for four years

Harry Redknapp wants Sam Allardyce to make a bold and controversial move as England manager and bring back John Terry as captain.

Allardyce was named the new England boss last week, following Roy Hodgson's resignation after another dismal showing at a tournament - the Three Lions crashing out of Euro 2016 at the hands of Iceland.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp feels England do not have enough leaders and believes bringing back the experienced John Terry would solve some of their problems.

Speaking to Talksport, he said:

"I'm delighted Sam has got the job. I think he'll do great. He'll give it a real go but when you start looking at leaders, where are they in the game? Bring John Terry back out of retirement and make him captain."

Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy on two occasions: the first in 2010 following allegations about his previous life and the second coming two years later after Terry stood trial for racial abuse allegations against then QPR defender Anton Ferdinand - leading to Fabio Capello resigning as England manager. Terry was found guilty and retired from international football later in the year.

Wayne Rooney is still the England skipper at present but Redknapp feels other than the United forward, no-one in the England squad scream is captain material.

If Rooney isn't in the team it's a scary [thought]. I watched a programme the other day about Euro 96. "[The England team had] Stuart Pearce, captain, leader. Sol Campbell, Tony Adams, Paul Ince, Teddy Sheringham, Alan Shearer - how many captains and leaders? Now you look at the squad and you can't find a captain."

Do you think Sam Allardyce should re-instate John Terry as captain? Let us know in the comments.
