Harry Redknapp Lays Into Saido Berahino Over Fitness

Harry Redknapp Lays Into Saido Berahino Over Fitness

The Stoke City striker hasn't scored a goal in over two years and his side are in trouble in the Premier League.

They often say that it's the team with a goalscorer who will manage to stay up in the Premier League relegation zone, which is a pretty good assumption considering the whole point of football, so Stoke are pretty screwed when it comes to Saido Berahino.

It's mad to think that once upon a time Saido Berahino was considered one of the best strikers that England had to offer, certainly he had the potential to be in that echelon. There was even debate in this office as to whether the then West Brom striker was better than Harry Kane, because of one man who wasn't me I hasten to add.

Check out the team we picked two years ago that could play in the Euros in 2020:

And Kane is of course relevant because at one point it was Spurs who wanted to take Berahino from the Hawthorns but the Baggies wouldn't sell at that time and by the time he moved to Stoke he was already out of form.

First Mark Hughes tried to get the best out of him, he failed before leaving and the striker became Paul Lambert's problem.

Berahino recently went past two years without a goal and Lambert told him in the week he wasn't fit enough and thus he wasn't on the bench in Stoke's 0-0 draw with Southampton leading to Harry Redknapp to lay into him:

Michael Owen's suggestion that when Berahino scored in the past you thought 'oof this guy can really finish' when talking about a player who hasn't bagged a goal in two years might be the most Owen thing ever.

The situation doesn't really help the Potters in any way. They're currently in the relegation zone and whilst they're only one point from being out of it and it's a really congested fight to stay up there isn't much in way of suggestion they'll got out of the bottom three.

If Berahino could get fit and find his shooting boots it would certainly help.
