Manchester United fans brutally mocked Harry Maguire for his role in Burnley's opening goal during their Premier League clash.

Burnley went 1-0 up just before the break after Chris Wood fired home from close range after losing Maguire, who came under heavy criticism for his defending.

The United skipper failed to track Wood's run before losing him. Fans mercilessly took to social media to vent their frustration about their club captain.

"What is Maguire doing there? Runs them on and is then so weak," one social media user wrote.

A second tweeted: "Chris Wood absolutely had Harry Maguire there."

A third tweeted: "Harry Maguire is a Championship defender. Shocking."

Rio Ferdinand also pulled no punches on his assessment of United's £80 million player.

"What are you doing there, Maguire? He doesn't anticipate it," he said on BT Sports. "You can't be that far off and allow that space. [He is] not close enough and [gets punished]. That's too easy."

United went onto lose 2-0 at home to Burnley as the Reds endure their worst season in 30 years.
