Manchester City closed the gap on Chelsea last night but it was their manager Pep Guardiola who stole all the headlines for his heart-warming gesture to Bournemouth's Harry Arter.

City climbed up to second in the Premier League following their 2-nil victory at the Vitality stadium thanks to a brilliant performance from Raheem Sterling.

Sterling opened the scoring before turning provider with Sergio Aguero doubling their lead after coming off the bench replacing the injured Gabriel Jesus.

Once the final whistle blew, Guardiola entered the pitch to congratulate his players then rushed over to Arter to issue a touching message. For those who missed it:

He was offering his condolences as a result of the tragic stillborn death of his daughter Renee in December 2015.

And the Republic of Ireland international has since revealed what was said to him. Speaking to Daily Echo via the Independent;

"He offered his best wishes for me and my partner this week, which was an unbelievable touch."

"He is someone I have a massive amount of respect for. I watched his Barcelona teams - and look at his Manchester City side tonight."

"For me, he is the best manager in the world. I don't think there's anybody close to him and what he has achieved."

"For him to offer that to me, I respected it and accepted it with a smile on my face."

Meanwhile, the Spaniard continued in the post-match press conference;

"He will be a father soon so I said big congratulations to him and his partner because I know what happened in the past, and, hopefully, the baby will be well."

Pep's a class act!
