Dele Alli pulled off a magnificent first touch and a sublime finish to pull Tottenham level with Manchester United before half-time.
Spurs were dealt an early blow at Old Trafford when Marcus Rashford squeezed the ball past Paulo Gazzaniga at the near post.
But Alli, who has been revitalised since the arrival of Jose Mourinho as Spurs boss, would pull back an equaliser with a stunning effort.
David de Gea managed to save Serge Aurier's shot, only for the rebound to land in the path of Alli.
And the 23-year-old in-form midfielder took the ball between Fred and Ashley Young with a brilliant first touch.
Alli allowed the ball to bounce before smashing it past the helpless United shot-stopper.
Fans have flocked to Twitter to praise the Spurs star, who scored twice against Bournemouth last weekend and once in his side's Champions League comeback against Olympiacos.
United and Spurs are level at 1-1 going into half-time.
Full-time result: Marcus Rashford scored from the spot-kick in the second half to complete his brace and hand Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford.
