Simon Mignolet's shocking howler allowed Bruno Fernandes' 35-yard strike to open the scoring for Sporting CP against Liverpool.

The Reds faced the Portuguese side in the States and Fernandes, who has been under intense speculation with a move to Manchester United, found the back of the net in the fourth minute.

The Portuguese midfielder, 24, received the ball on the left-hand side and fired a 35-yard strike directly at Mignolet, who failed to catch the ball and subsequently ricocheted into the back of the net.

Liverpool bounced back in the 20th minute as Divock Origi levelled the scores before Georginio Wijnaldum put Jurgen Klopp's men ahead before half-time.

But Fernandes would come back to haunt the reigning Champions League holders in the second half by picking out a superb pass to Wendel, who fired home an equaliser for Sporting CP.

Klopp, 52, admitted after the 2-2 draw that he is not thrilled at the idea of Fernandes leaving Sporting CP and making the move to Old Trafford.

"If he will do that [move to United] then we will face him," the Liverpool boss said.

"He's obviously a really good player. They have already a few really good players, so that will probably make them stronger.

"It's not nice, but it [United's transfer business] is not our cup of tea, to be honest."

Sporting CP manager Marcel Keizer also said that he was unsure if his side would keep hold of the Portugal international, with a number of clubs keeping tabs on the player this summer.

"I can say about Bruno that he's a very good player and he's important for us," he said.

"Of course, everybody would like him to stay, but we don't know the situation at the moment.

"He is here but we don't know what the future will bring, so we will have to wait.

"We know that clubs like him, so we have to see what's going to happen."

But Sky Sports reports that United are reportedly set to end their interest in Fernandes, who is valued at around £65m.

The Red Devils don't consider Fernandes to be one of their priority signings this summer, with United heavily linked with an £80m move for Leicester City star Harry Maguire.
