Gini Wijnaldum had a hilarious reaction to being completely blanked by Memphis Depay last night.

The Liverpool midfielder played 45 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Spain last night and suffered the ultimate embarrassment when he was on the substitutes bench.

Memphis was taken off ten minutes from the end and as is normal, fist-bumped some of his teammates as he made his way to sit down.

On his 30th birthday, poor Wijnaldum had his fist out for absolutely ages as the Lyon forward completely missed him and walked past him and over to the other side.

We've all been there at some point and Wijnaldum's response was to take the hanging humiliation in his stride by keeping his fist outstretched and laughing at himself.

Eventually, Memphis did come back over and give his colleague a long-awaited fist-bump. Persistence does pay off.

The game at the Johan Cruyff Arena finished 1-1. Sergio Canales opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Donny van de Beek equalised early on in the second half.

In the absence of his club and national team colleague Virgil van Dijk, Wijnaldum marked turning 30 by captaining his country in the friendly.

"Of course it is great to represent your country in this way," Wijnaldum said post-match, as per Goal.

"But I would have preferred for Van Dijk to have been here. Then he would have been the captain instead.

"He makes our team stronger and is still very involved with us. I had him on the phone before the game - we talked about my birthday. But I'll call him again shortly."
