Gianluigi Buffon Lights Flare In Sensational Scenes At PSG Unveiling
| Last updated
Gianluigi Buffon had his official unveiling as a Paris Saint-Germain player today and the scenes outside the Parc des Princes were different gravy.
Thousands of PSG fans gathered outside the stadium to give the legendary Italian a rapturous reception, complete with a whole lot of pyro.
'Gigi' shook hands with many of the supporters but was also handed a flare to light up and wave with the ultras. The whole thing was captured in an incredible video on PSG's official Twitter account.
Buffon spoke to the media as part of a press conference and also had the mandatory pitchside photos with chairman and CEO Nasser Al Khelaifi, as well as his family.
Buffon is now 40 years of age but shows no signs of slowing down, signing a one-year contract upon his lucrative move to the French capital.
There is also the option to extend that deal for another 12 months, which would take him beyond his 42nd birthday.
He becomes new manager Thomas Tuchel's first signing at the club and will surely slot straight in as the number one choice between the sticks.
And in signing for PSG, Buffon still has one last chance to finally lift the Champions League trophy that slipped through his grasp on so many occasions during his wonderful stay in Turin.
Reflecting on his decision to move to Paris, he told the official PSG website:
"I know what dreams PSG and its fans have in their hearts. I am going to bring all my energy, all my experience and all of my thirst to win to help my new club achieve all the great objectives it has set out for the future.
"For the first time in my career, I am leaving my country and only a project this ambitious could have encouraged me to make such a decision."
