England are in line for a monstrous last-16 game at Euro 2020, with Germany's reaction to potentially facing Gareth Southgate's team very telling.

The Three Lions booked their spot in the next round of the European Championship by topping Group D following a 1-0 victory over Czech Republic at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.

Southgate's charges await the second-placed team in Group F. As things stand, Germany occupy that spot but France, Portugal or Hungary could be potential opponents depending on the outcome of Wednesday's games.

He's admitted it will be a 'tough' meeting whoever his team draw, with the Germans feeling 'pretty confident' about the prospect of a juggernaut meeting next Tuesday.

That's according to Bundesliga journalist Archie Rhind-Tutt who reported that the general tone of German TV is that they like their chances against England.

Joachim Low's side lost their Euro 2020 opener to France, but bounced back in style - thrashing Portugal 4-2.

They round off their Group F venture against Hungary.

Speaking after Raheem Sterling scored England's match winner, Southgate touched on a possible clash with one of the big boys.

"These will be different games," he said. "World champions, European champions or Germany who are back on song.

"Whoever we play will be tough opposition but we have known the route through for 18 months. But the good thing is that we are still improving - there is more to come from us.

"We said to the players before the game that the pressure was off, we had qualified but there was still something to achieve by winning the Group which was always our target.

"First or second, there was no way of knowing what is the better route and there's no way of knowing who we will face next but you have to take control of what you can achieve and we wanted to stay at Wembley.

"Wembley can be important for us, it looks as if we might have more fans in and that can really help us."
