Gary Neville says he is "delighted" that Romelu Lukaku has left Manchester United, continuing the war of words between the two in recent times.

United legend Neville recently slammed the Anderlecht youth product for admitting to being overweight and he responded by telling Neville he has night to talk about his professionalism or work ethic.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Lukaku said: "Don't question my professionalism. I live for this game. I am at home all the time. I try to do everything to improve.

"He (Neville) can talk about my fitness but he should never say anything about my professionalism, that I don't work hard enough. That is something he cannot say. All the coaches I have had say the same thing about me.

"We are grown men. He is a pundit. He gets paid to say this kind of stuff. I am paid to play football. I just want to do my best for Inter Milan. That is it."

But the Sky Sports pundit isn't exactly doubling down on his comments, accusing the former Chelsea and Everton striker of thinking he was bigger than United in a post on Twitter.

Lukaku scored on his Serie A debut against Lecce after making the £74 million switch to Inter Milan and he is already said to have lost half a stone after being placed on a strict diet by new boss Antonio Conte.

He is not allowed to eat any fried food or drink alcohol - the latter being something he has never done - and there is an emphasis on white meat.

Last month, the 26-year old made a mockery of reports he was overweight by uploading a shirtless photo of him to Snapchat, captioning it: "Not bad for being called fat".
