Gary Neville Given Huge Pay Rise By Sky Sports

Gary Neville Given Huge Pay Rise By Sky Sports

He's returning after a disastrous spell in charge of Valencia

2016 hasn't been particularly kind to Gary Neville; The former Manchester United captain endured a rotten few months in charge of Valencia, where he was dismissed before the expiration of his six month contract and then he helped oversee England's disastrous Euro 2016 campaign as one of Roy Hodgson's coaching staff. So he must be rubbing his hands together at the pay rise Sky Sports are handing him upon his return as a pundit for the 2016/17 season.

Neville spent four years as a pundit for Sky, quickly reversing a lot of fans' opinions of him with his astute observations and tactical analysis. He was soon joined by Jamie Carragher, with the pair forming a popular double act. However, after accepting the Valencia manager's job at the beginning of the year, Neville's stock quickly nosedived as he failed to turn around 'Los Che's' fading fortunes in La Liga.

So it comes as quite a surprise that Sky are willingly handing over an extra £300,000-per-year to Neville as part of his new contract with the network. The deal, worth a reported £1.5m-a-year, is exclusive, meaning the former England international is prohibited from appearing on other networks, like Thierry Henry does.

Neville will make 40 appearances per season as well as having as yet unconfirmed extra duties with Sky.
