Gareth Southgate Was The Most Relaxed Man Inside Wembley When England Went 1-0 Up

Gareth Southgate was calmness personified when England opened the scoring in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

The Three Lions made a dream start at Wembley when Luke Shaw got on the end of Kieran Trippier's cross to the far post and notched the fastest goal in the history of European Championship finals.

The England players went absolutely mad, as did the 60,000 in the stands and the millions watching around the country.

Whether in the pub, fan parks or in the living room, it was complete and utter pandemonium.

But Southgate was super relaxed. ITV posted footage of the boss' reaction to Shaw's fantastic finish and he did very well to contain his emotions.

The former Middlesbrough manager did a fist pump and clapped the lovely flowing move from his team but the composure maintained was incredible.

He might well have been the calmest man in the country, not just Wembley and this is the man who could well be leading England to a first major trophy in 55 years.

England lead Italy 1-0 at half-time after a solid 45 minutes during which they made it very uncomfortable for Roberto Mancini's team and didn't let them settle.

Reports this week suggested Southgate would receive a knighthood if England were to go all the way at the Euros.

The 50-year-old was given an OBE in the 2019 New Year Honours for services to football.
