Real Madrid star Gareth Bale's response was "never say never" when asked about the possibility of joining Bayern Munich.

The Welshman, who joined Los Blancos from Tottenham in a then-world-record transfer in 2013, has won three Champions Leagues playing for the club.

However, he has struggled with injuries of late and has continually been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale to Manchester United rumours are non-stop, but the 28-year old has also linked with Bayern, tonight's Champions League semi-final opponents.

And while he stressed he is a Real Madrid player, he did seem pretty pleased to be linked with the Bavarian giants.

"You can never rule out anything in football," he said in an interview with Bild.

"Currently I play at Real Madrid and I enjoy that. Bayern have a fantastic squad and in the past they have always been one of the most successful clubs in Europe. It's an honour for everyone to be linked with this club. But as of now, I am a Real Madrid player."

Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski is in the opposite role to Bale as he has been regularly touted to become Real's next Galactico.

Bale feels the Polish international, who has 39 goals in 43 games this term, would fit in seamlessly.

"Lewandowski has the quality for Real," said Bale.

"He is one of the best strikers in the world, he guarantees goals for both Bayern and his national team. We know what a serious threat he poses in the games against us."

The other big Bayern-Real connection tonight is James Rodriguez, who is of course on loan at the Bundesliga champions but is available to play.

The Colombian will be looking to haunt his parent club, taking a leaf out of Fernando Morientes' book.

Unfancied at Real, he was loaned out to Monaco for the 2003/04 season but ended up knocking the 12-time European champions out of the Champions League after scoring twice, including a crucial away goal, in the quarter finals.
