Gabriel Jesus has made a spectacular start to his Manchester City career, scoring three goals in three games and displacing Sergio Aguero from the starting eleven.

At 19 years of age, youngsters can often get too much, too quick and are in great danger of getting caught up in their own hype.

Jesus' mother makes a point of ensuring that doesn't happen to her son.

As per a report in The Mail that references an interview Gabriel's elder sibling Caique did with Yahoo Brasil last year, Vera Lucia Diniz de Jesus makes sure the £27 million man 'keeps his feet in the ground' by receiving his weekly salary and then giving him 'pocket money' to spend.

Like most mothers, she is involved in her son's love life and has strict rules that Gabriel, who has a tattoo dedicated to his Mum, must adhere to.

As quoted in an interview in the past, she said:

"Girlfriends have to live by my rules, and there'll be no heavy kissing. Staying over, only once in a while."

"I will never accept that my son disrespects the daughters of others. No son of mine is going to get someone else's daughter pregnant. I demand respect because I raised all three of them on my own, with the help of God."

Finally, Jesus' mother, who raised him alone along with his three siblings in a rundown area in Sao Paolo, is so involved in his career that she even gives him footballing advice before a game.

"I tell him that if he scores a goal, that's great.

"But if he doesn't, he'll be welcomed back home with open arms the same way. I tell him to keep his eye on the game, to pick up rebounds.

"Stop trying to do those chips over defenders. I followed him through the football schools so I picked up a thing or two."

Back in September, Gabriel bagged a brace for Brazil in 3-0 World Cup qualifier victory against Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier last September but his mother wasn't completely satisfied.

The former Palmeiras man revealed how his mother sent him a text message which said: "Gabriel, learn, keep watch so you don't go offside. You went offside twice."

His mother surely can't be too critical of the start he has made at Manchester City so far...
