Manchester City fans are not happy with the idea of Leroy Sané leaving for Bayern Munich, but Schalke are far from ecstatic about the idea of him heading to the Bundesliga champions.

After all, the 23-year-old German winger spent time in the Schalke youth academy and broke into the club's first team, spending two seasons at the Royal Blues and making over 40 appearances.

When news broke that Bayern Munich were getting ready to make an opening offer of €80m for the City star, Schalke took to Twitter to voice their disappointment about a potential transfer to their rivals.

"Don't do it, Leroy..." Schalke tweeted.

Sané has emerged as one of the top targets for the Bavarians this summer, especially as manager Niko Kovač prepares to freshen up his squad following the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry.

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the club were thinking about signing the Germany international during his time at Schalke.

"We already had the idea when he was still with Schalke," he said (via BBC Sport).

"But at that time we did not have a guaranteed regular place for him. Robben and Ribery were top of the top three years ago."

Sané has a contract that keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until 2021, but City teammate İlkay Gündoğan recently said that he wants him to stay with the Premier League champions.

"If players in our team at one or another time do not play, it has now become a normal fact that there are automatic rumours," he told Bild.

"As our coach has already said, the club wants to keep Leroy."

Should Sané leave City in the summer?
