Ebbsfleet United striker Yado Mambo was a relatively unknown National League player until a Twitter user noticed something incredibly disappointing about his squad number, this week.

So here's a little background information on the central defender. Mambo is currently in his third spell with Ebbsfleet, having joined on loan from Charlton Athletic in 2011/12 and again in 2013/14.

In a popular move by the National League side, the defender returned for the third time in December 2016, but his squad number has since caused outrage among supporters.

But why has the number 18 caused outrage?

When he signed on the dotted line in December last year, Ebbsfleet decided against handing Mambo the number five shirt.

MAMBO NUMBER FIVE?! That's right. Ebbsfleet United missed out on a potentially ground breaking name to number combination that would have lifted the club to astronomical heights when it comes to banter.

"Imagine signing a player called Mambo and not giving him the number 5 shirt. Poor form from Ebbsfleet United." said Twitter user JoeA

As we all know and perhaps adore, Lou Bega released the song 'Mambo No.5' back in the glorious year of 1999 and that god awful tune has since digested itself in millions of brains across the globe. "A little bit of Erika..."

See you're already singing it now. Well, Ebbsfleet have since responded to the squad number fiasco, saying: "We largely do it to be difficult as @MistarrYads gets a big bonus every time someone mentions the fact he's not No.5."

But what does the man himself think of his squad number?

Mambo replied to the above tweet with a simple, but effective crying face emoji.

I think Ebbsfleet need to do the decent thing and give Mambo the number five shirt. Or we all riot until it happens.
