Nemanja Matic has brilliantly responded to an Instagram post poking fun at a potential reunion with newly-appointed Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

The Manchester United defensive midfielder, 31, has shared a close relationship with the 'Special One' during his time at Chelsea and United.

Mourinho, 56, initially brought Matic back to the Blues after snapping him up from Benfica in 2014.

And the former Chelsea boss would splash out on the Serbia international again when he brought him to Old Trafford in 2017.

Now, BenchWarmers posted on Instagram photos of the 'Pablo Escobar waiting' meme and captioned it: "#Matic waiting for #January so Jose #Mourinho can sign him."

The ex-Chelsea star spotted the post and responded with a pair of clapping and laughing emojis.

While plenty of fans have seen the funny side of Matic responding to the post, one fan slammed him on Twitter after tweeting: "Matic has no shame."

But fans have quickly jumped to the United player's defence while other Red Devils supporters would welcome him leaving the club.

Matic, who is a free agent next summer, has fallen out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

And the Serbian midfielder has also been reduced to five appearances this season due to being sidelined.

Mourinho made his sensational return to management after Spurs axed Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday.

Pochettino guided Spurs to the Champions League final last season and a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League.

But Tottenham have had a disappointing start to the campaign and have fallen to 14th place, only six points above the relegation zone.

Spurs' first match in the post-Pochettino era will begin on Saturday with an away trip to West Ham.

Mourinho will also make his return to Old Trafford next month for Spurs' clash with United.
