"You support Everton? Tough, isn't it? Must be very tough."

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk took a brutal dig at Merseyside rivals Everton during a question and answer session.

The 29-year-old, who has been a revelation since joining the club from Southampton in 2018, was asked by a Liverpool under 8's player if he was "popular" after lifting the Champions League trophy.

"I was very happy. Were you very happy?" van Dijk said, before asking the same question to a kid next to him.

It was soon apparent that the lad was an Evertonian, who obviously wasn't best pleased with their 2-0 win against Tottenham, where goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi sealed a historic win in Madrid.

"You support Everton? Tough, isn't it? Must be very tough." teased van Dijk.

This is brilliant.

Van Dijk's contribution this season has once again been of vital importance to Jurgen Klopp's side, and his "most valuable defender in world football" tag is justified

Last year, the Dutch international had a whopping value of £90 million ahead of teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is valued at £72 million.

In the overall rankings, Van Dijk's international partner Matthijs De Ligt is ranked third in the list with a value of £67.5 million, while Manchester United's Harry Maguire (£63 million) cracks the top ten.

1. Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - £90 million

2. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - £72 million

3. Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus) - £67.5 million
