You literally couldn't write it. Liverpool are interested in signing another Southampton player, because of course they are.

In recent years, the Reds have signed the likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk for a combined total of £178 million, just short of the £210 million the club was sold for back in August.

At this point, Liverpool may as well scrap their scouting system and just sign any player doing remotely well at St Mary's.

One man they are being linked with today is midfielder Mario Lemina, who signed from Juventus for a club-record fee of £15.4 million in the summer transfers.

Typically, there have been some brilliant reactions to the news that Liverpool want to continue their feeder club partnership with Southampton:

We look forward to seeing reports linking Liverpool with James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic and Cedric Soares.
