Even when he's not deliberately attempting to do so, Joey Barton can't help but get into arguments with people, after a misunderstanding led to a very awkward interview with British boxing legend Chris Eubank, this morning.
Barton was putting the questions to Eubank during an interview on talkSPORT regarding Eubank's son, Chris Eubank Jr. When the former Burnley midfielder mentioned how Jr hadn't featured on any major channels, such as Sky Sports for any of his recent fights, Eubank seemed to take exception and asked Barton who he was.
"Remind me of your name again, Sir?" came the reply from a seemingly irritated Eubank, who was apparently unimpressed with Barton's line of questioning, with the 35-year-old querying as to why Eubank Jr was still fighting on ITV Box Office rather than Sky, where he could gather more of a following and have his fights more highly publicised.
Eubank vs Groves for the IBO & WBA World Titles. The World Boxing Super Series is brilliant for the sport. Congratulations @SauerlandBros  pic.twitter.com/VkUdLnrJcW

Eubank Jr will go head-to-head with George Groves in the World Boxing Super Series semi-finals in January, having knocked out Turkish fighter Avni Yildirim in their quarter-final bout in Stuttgart nine days ago. Barton told Eubank that he didn't even realise his son was fighting that night, although he was fully aware that Anthony Crolla was, due to Crolla's fight being broadcast on Sky Sports.
However, before the conversation could go any further, Eubank appeared to hang up, with Barton assuming he'd upset the former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight champion.
FIGHT! You HAVE to hear this on-air bust up between @ChrisEubank and @Joey7Barton on @SportsBreakfast this morning! Classic :joy: pic.twitter.com/1ZnSRGpPDj

Barton quickly took to Twitter to clear up any confusion, while Eubank did likewise.
Hopefully I didn't upset Chris Eubank Sr there. Just a boxing fan who wanted to know why @ChrisEubankJr isn't fighting on mainstream tv.

Alan, please let Joey know that I was not given names of who I would be speaking with.

And while the pair had buried the hatchet, there will still people who wanted to see Barton and Eubank step in the ring together, including Niall Horan from One Direction, who pleaded with Eddie Hearn to make the fight happen.
Eubank snr V @Joey7Barton . @EddieHearn sort that! @talkSPORT

Is anyone else a bit disappointed that it was simply a misunderstanding and not a bust up eventually leading to a boxing match that would finally give us a bout to equal Ricky Gervais' step inside the squared circle against Anthea Turner's ex-husband Grant Bovey, in 2002?
Come on, Joey, aim a few more sly digs Eubank Snr's way and make it happen.
