Sadly, the headlines generated by last night's World Cup qualifier between Ireland and Wales were nothing to do with wonder goals or match winning heroics, but instead Neil Taylor's sickening foul on Seamus Coleman.
The Everton full-back suffered a horrific looking broken leg as a result of Taylor's wrecklessness, with the Welshmen rightfully receiving his marching orders as a result.
However, Chris Coleman's men could and should have been reduced to 10 men shortly before Taylor's red card.

Wales captain Gareth Bale somehow avoided a red card and Ireland defender John O'Shea somehow avoided a similar fate to his compatriot Coleman, when the Real Madrid man stormed into a studs up challenge on the Sunderland man, which could just as easily have sent O'Shea straight to the hospital.
The tackle can be seen in the tweet below:

As you can see, O'Shea is clearly having none of Bale's apologies, with the Wales skipper only receiving a yellow card.

Bale is now suspended for Wales' next game, away to Serbia on 11th June.
The match at the Aviva stadium finished 0-0, although the scoreline barely seemed to matter after Coleman's injury.
