England centre back Harry Maguire has revealed that his dad suffered broken ribs during the ugly scenes at Euro 2020 final, that saw fans force their way into Wembley.

Euro 2020 final between England and Italy was somewhat ruined on Sunday night when fans forced their way into the stadium, threatened stewards, sexually abused a female fan and attacked Italy fans.

Some have even called for the team to be banned from the World Cup next year in Qatar, following the actions of the fans.

One fan who did get caught up in all the awful scenes was Maguire's dad, Alan, who was trampled by fans who burst through a disabled entrance and ended up with two broken ribs.

"It was scary," the Manchester United centre back told the Sun.

"It was not a nice experience - it shook him up. But he was fortunate as every game he has been to he has had my nephew or one of my kids on his shoulders. So I'm thankful that did not happen as it could have been a really serious moment."

The defender's father, and his agent Kenneth Shepherd, were on their way to their seats in the player's seating area.

"My dad was in the stampede. I have not spoken with him too much but I am pleased my kids didn't go to the game," the former Leicester City player added.

"It was scary - he said he was scared and I don't want anyone to experience that at a football match.

"I have seen a lot of videos and have spoken to Dad and my family. It was my dad and agent who suffered the most.

"I hope we can learn from this and make sure it doesn't happen again."

It was a very different Euros experience for Maguire and his dad compared with the previous tournament in France three years ago.

The pair were there as spectators, and England fans, as the Three Lions were knocked out by Iceland in the last 16 in 2016.

Maguire, who was included in the Team of the Tournament, said it wouldn't stop his dad going to games but it would make him 'more aware,' saying, "He was struggling with his breathing afterwards because of his ribs, but he's not one to make a big fuss.

"The experience at Wembley is always amazing, filled with great people and great fans normally. But this time was obviously the final and everyone got overwhelmed and the way some people acted was totally wrong.

"Dad will always support me and go to the games but he will be a little bit more aware of everything going on around. We should all be more aware and learn from it."

Maguire and all the England players will be hoping the fans are better behaved next time they're at Wembley.
