Ronald Koeman's Everton tenure appears to be in the balance following their dismal start to new Premier League campaign, with the club reportedly eyeing up a former Premier League manager to potentially replace the Dutchman's services.

He spent a whopping amount in the summer drafting in some quality talent. From Sunderland's Jordan Pickford to Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson, among many others.

But despite the squad overhaul, Everton are on a miserable run of form which was compounded over the weekend following their 1-0 home defeat to Burnley.

Everton occupy 16th position in the league table, winning just two games from the opening seven matches, scoring just the four goals.

As Koeman's charges continue to miss fire and commit defensive howlers, needless to say, his future has come under serious threat, with reports suggesting Walter Mazzarri could take over the helm at Goodison Park.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Everton are interested in appointing Mazzarri as their new manager.

They continue to claim that initial contact has been made after the league defeat on Sunday, and a meeting could take place in the coming days.

The Italian has one season of English top flight management under his belt following his stint with Watford in the 2016/17 season.

He secured their Premier League status, though he was subsequently binned with Watford terminating his contract.

The 55-year-old also has a wealth of experience managing in the Serie A. He's managed the likes of Sampdoria, Napoli and Inter Milan.
