Despite the size of their trophy cabinet, it hasn't always gone swimmingly for Liverpool. They are still without a Premier League trophy, but have found success in domestic and European cup competitions in recent years.

Usually, there is an aspect of their season to cheer about. This wasn't the case eight years ago, however .

Their transfer business this summer has been a statement of intent, regardless of how many have been criticising the club for their lavish spending, with Jurgen Klopp, the manager, receiving the brunt of the comments, following the quotes he made on Paul Pogba's world record-breaking move from Juventus to Manchester United.

This summer, indeed, Liverpool have spent big. Xherdan Shaqiri, Alisson, Fabinho and Naby Keïta have all made the move to Liverpool, but back in 2010, Liverpool signed these players, in a time where things were quite a bit different.

Match of the Day

Joe Cole, Danny Wilson, and Milan Jovanović.

So how much was spent on these players? Jovanović was signed from Standard Liege on a bumper contract, while Cole was signed from rivals Chelsea on a free transfer, and Wilson was joined up from Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

Things are looking much rosier for Liverpool now, with their recent incomings really giving the supporters the idea that next season, really could be their season.
