Neymar's highlights from his debut season at Paris Saint-Germain show he'd have been a genuine Ballon d'Or contender if not for injury.

The Brazilian superstar joined PSG from Barcelona in 2017 and the transfer was worth up to €222 million.

It means Neymar is the world's most expensive player and with that comes grand expectations. That didn't bother him though.

Despite not playing after March due to a metatarsal injury, Neymar managed to score 28 goals and register 16 assists in 30 games.

Breaking down the numbers, it means the 28-year-old was registering a goal every 96 minutes of football.

Six came in the Champions League, while 19 of them came in Ligue 1 and it helped PSG to their seventh domestic title.

Neymar offers so much more than just goals though. Often credited as football's ultimate entertainer, he bamboozled full-backs across the league with all kinds of skill.

Thanks to injury, the former Santos man only came 12th in the Ballon d'Or rankings that year.

Fans have reacted to the highlights and in terms of individual seasons, they think it is legendary.

One user said: "This guy is easily the best player after Messi he gets so much disrespect ffs. What a beast."

A second added: "Is it wrong for me to think that aside from R9 [Ronaldo Nazario] I think he's the best Brazilian ever?"

While a third simply stated: "That was his best season in Europe."

Neymar recently returned from an ankle issue to help PSG defeat Marseille in the Trophee des Champions.

He came off the bench to score the decisive penalty in a 2-1 win to give Mauricio Pochettino his first trophy in management.

Marseille have Alvaro Gonzalez in their ranks, who Neymar accused of racial abuse during the side's last meeting in September.

He couldn't resist having a dig on Twitter after the game and it prompted a reply from the Spaniard.

Alvaro said: "My parents always taught me to take out the trash. Go OM always."

That wasn't the end of it. Neymar replied laughing at his rival saying, "And he forgot how to win titles."

Alvaro tried to get under his rival's skin by tweeting a picture Pele alongside the caption: "Eternally in the shadow of the king."

Neymar delivered one final blow with: "And you're in my shadow. Made you famous...you're welcome."
