Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has branded the Football Association 'embarrassing' after they posted a series of tweets mocking Harry Kane during Spurs' F.A Cup semi-final clash with Manchester United.

The FA has since apologised for their tweets which mocked both Man United defender Chris Smalling and Kane, suggesting that the centre-back had Kane in his back pocket.

Asked about the controversial tweet, Pochettino replied as per The Telegraph. "It was embarrassing, no? It was a shame because the FA is English football and Harry Kane is a potential captain in the World Cup. It is difficult to understand, very difficult and they have apologised about that.

"The situation disappointed me. The fact it happened, then they apologised after a few days. But move on. That is the reality. We need to protect our assets, our English players, our young players."

Kane has come in for a series of online insults and jibes after he claimed to score a goal which looked to have been scored by his teammate Christian Eriksen.

It went to the dubious goals panel and they awarded it to Kane. But since the incident has been meme-afied, with thousands of users responding to goal alerts or goal footage on social media joking that Kane scored it.

The whole saga has reportedly affected the 24-year-old forward, with his boss Pochettino saying that his star striker trying to get over the incident.

"Harry was very sad. But he's strong in his mind. He's moved on. We are helping him to move on. It was a mistake and he needs to move on quick."
