Football Manager often provides a very interesting 'insight' into the future and Squawka have put the game's realism to the test by simulating the next five years and seeing who ends up in the FIFPro World XI.

Plenty of familiar faces make the side but there also a fair few newbies in the mix as far as the the Team of the Season is concerned.

Here is how it all played out...

2019:

Ederson; Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Leonardo Bonucci, Kieran Tierney; Bernardo Silva, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic; Leo Messi, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo; Antoine Griezmann.

Three Real Madrid players feature, Manchester City pair Ederson and Bernardo Silva get in for the first time, while Kieran Tierney (now playing for Arsenal) is voted the best left-back in the world. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is a Chelsea player and his tally of 15 goals in 46 games sees him make the cut.

Usual suspects Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi retain their places, but both finish with less goals than Antoine Griezmann.

2020:

Thibaut Courtois; Cesar Azpilicueta, Leonardo Bonucci, Milan Skriniar, Sergio Escudero; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Leon Goretzka; Leo Messi, Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo; Antoine Griezmann

Leonardo Bonucci, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann all retain their places, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Milan Skriniar (both of Chelsea) and Sergio Escudero of Manchester City complete the back four.

Leon Goretzka and and Paulo Dybala also make their debuts.

2021:

Thibaut Courtois; Nelson Semedo, Leonardo Bonucci, Sergio Ramos, Kieran Tierney; Timo Werner, Kevin De Bruyne; Kylian Mbappé, Robert Lewandowski, Philippe Coutinho; Cristiano Ronaldo.

Thibaut Courtois is in for the second year on the trot, only bettered by Leonardo Bonucci making his third appearance.

Kieran Tierney is back in and somehow Timo Werner, Kevin De Bruyne; Kylian Mbappé, Robert Lewandowski and Philippe Coutinho are all playing behind a 36-year old Cristiano Ronaldo, who bangs in 31 in 51 for Juventus.

2022:

David De Gea; Benjamin Henrichs, Alessio Romagnoli, Andreas Christensen, Kieran Tierney; Kevin De Bruyne, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic; Mohamed Salah, Antoine Griezmann, Neymar; Kylian Mbappé.

Manchester United win the Premier League for the second year in a row and have two players in the World XI after Alessio Romagnoli joins the club. Mo Salah gets in, Neymar comes back into the fold after scoring 27 goals in 44 appearances as well as winning the World Cup.

Finally, Antoine Griezmann celebrates four consecutive years in the best team of the year.

2023:

Gerónimo Rulli; Benjamin Henrichs, Matthijs de Ligt, Marquinhos, Kieran Tierney; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Kylian Mbappé; Harry Kane, Bernardo Silva, Maximiliano Romero; José Vicente (Regen)

Geronimo Rulli of PSG takes his place in goal, while Matthijs de Ligt signs for Barcelona as Andreas Christensen's £101 million defensive partner.

Kieran Tierney and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic enjoyed their fourth appearance in the star-studded team.

Harry Kane, now a Manchester United player after an £106 million move, earns his spot following a 27-goal campaign, while Bernardo Silva scores 23 from midfield and gets back in.

Kylian Mbappe hits 31 but the spotlight is well and truly on made-up player Jose Vicente, who helps himself to a staggering 40 goals in 53 games following a £78 million move from Valencia.
