People in Bristol have been left stunned after a football filled with concrete was left on a field with a cruel note on it that read: "Bet that hurt".

A dog-walker found the ball while strolling through Pomphrey Hill in Mangotsfield on July 7.

They discovered the ball in the middle of the playing field after taking their dog for a walk.

"We walked around the perimeter of the cricket pitch, which is in a raised part of the playing fields, and I noticed the ball pretty early on - it was my intention to go over at the end of the walk and kick it to the side somewhere," an anonymous person told Bristol Live.

"As I was heading towards it, I noticed it looked a bit misshapen and deflated, so I just very lightly tapped it with my foot. I obviously noticed straight away it was very heavy.

"The concrete patch was visible too, and on closer inspection I saw someone had scrawled on it.

"Someone has gone to a lot of effort to do this, and to keep the ball round to make it look as realistic as possible.

"It was clearly intended to injure someone, there are some not very nice notes written on the ball and it's definitely been done with a bit of malice.

"I wouldn't have thought it was done by kids either, as I doubt, they would have access to concrete and the sort of materials you'd need to make it look that realistic."

Concerned people took to social media to vent their anger at the sick prank.

"Can you tell me what you find fnny in this .. I think it's pretty sad and very dangerous and not at all funny," one Facebook user wrote.

A second wrote: "I don't see where this is funny at all, a kid could have really hurt him/herself, maybe even broke an ankle. All you people on here who found it funny must be a little sick yourselves."

A third added: "As a dog owner whos dog would prob go fetch that this is not funny. Broken teeth and leg as she bounces it. Sad people about."

It's believed the rock-hard ball weighed up to 20kg. It would've caused serious damage if anyone had kicked it.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.
