On the football games front, Pro Evolution Soccer has been the hipster's favourite for some time, but things are about to get real tough for them, following the news that the Champions League and Europa League have jumped ship and signed for rivals FIFA for their upcoming release.

You can peddle out all the niche official Russian leagues you like, PES, it's just no match for FIFA this summer.

But there may be hope for them just yet: via Twitter, PES brand director Jonas Lygaard, who had already hinted at a official Schalke 04 deal with a cryptic post, said this:

It could well mean that Real Madrid are set to sign up with PES for their 2018 release - PES 19. It will be an upgrade from Los Blancos' previous name - MD White.

Just three year ago, EA Sports signed a deal with Real Madrid, which grants the game exclusivity until the summer of 2018.

Now it seems as though Real Madrid are happy to give full access to both FIFA and PES.

But what does this mean for a certain Cristiano Ronaldo?

The Portugal international will feature on the front cover of the FIFA 19 cover for this year's edition, but with Los Blancos giving rights to PES, surely the Komani-produced game will want the global superstar to spearhead their marketing campaign.

Either way, it looks as though the attacker will be fully licensed in both games, then - a win-win for gamers.

Whatever happens, the debate about which game is better will rage on.

Which game will you be buying this year? Let us know in the comments section.
