Barcelona's 5-0 win over Alaves on Sunday was lit up by a sublime showing from Riqui Puig, with fans claiming the 20-year-old could be the next Andres Iniesta or Kevin De Bruyne.

High praise for the dynamic midfielder, who many Barca fans have been desperately wanting to get a run in the first team. He certainly grabbed his chance on the last day of La Liga's season.

Puig recorded two assists, four key passes, plus three big chances created - and finished the game with a passing accuracy of 90%.

The numbers don't tell the full story, however. The No 28 also curled a beautiful shot at goal from outside the box early on - only for the ball to crash back off the crossbar. So close.

He could also have easily added to his assist tally, as several great chances were passed up, particularly by Luis Suarez. Lionel Messi was quick to point at the youngster after a neat pass in the box set his captain up for a goal, however, as the two linked up superbly.

On Twitter, fans immediately began praising his technique, composure, tenacity, passing abilities and attacking instincts.

Puig became the youngest Barcelona player to register two assists in a game since 2011 - and his display was a welcome highlight to a bitterly disappointing end to the domestic season, one that saw the club surrender the title to Real Madrid.

The club have struggled in the transfer market ever since the departure of Neymar in 2017 robbed them of their MSN front line. Numerous big names have failed to make the expected impact and the young players produced by the legendary La Masia academy haven't been breaking through.

Messi himself has expressed his frustration at the state of the club - but there are some signs of a bright future with young talent at last being given a chance once again.

That includes Puig, who'd played just three first-team games before this season - but now has Barca supporters begging for his inclusion in the starting line-up against Napoli in the Champions League.

Then there's Ansu Fati, the incredibly promising 17-year-old who already has eight goals for the club this season.

For now, Barcelona remain overly reliant on their thirty-somethings like Messi, Suarez, Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets. But with the likes of Puig and Fati breaking through, perhaps Barca's future outlook is better than its extremely messy (no pun intended) present.
