Barcelona Keeping A Close Watch On A World-Class Player, Says His Former Agent

Barcelona have a keen interest in one defender who “can play for any team in the world,” according to the player’s former agent.

There was once a time when Barcelona had a formidable centre-back pairing with Gerard Piqué and Carles Puyol. While the Spanish club has retained Piqué and has the likes of Samuel Umtiti to partner with him, they are always looking out for world-class talent to reinforce their squad options.

It would seem that the reigning La Liga champions have a particular interest in at least one defender, who would no doubt compete for a first-team place against Piqué and Umtiti.

Barcelona really "like" Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly. That's according to his former agent, Bruno Satin, with the club keen to acquire the services of a player who "can play for any team in the world."

"Are Barcelona interested in Koulibaly? Everyone saw how good he was on Wednesday," he told Radio CRC (via Football Italia).

"Kalidou can play for any team in the world, be it Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. He recently renewed his contract, but we're seeing that Piqué isn't going through a good spell at Barcelona.

"Does [Ariedo] Braida like Koulibaly? Yes, for sure. We talked about him on Wednesday at the San Paolo. After that, there are other factors that need to be addressed.

"How much is Kalidou worth? He's very strong and quick. He's learned so much from all the coaches he's worked with, from those in Belgium to [Rafael] Benítez and [Maurizio] Sarri.

"It must be remembered that since they signed him from Genk for [£6.5m], they've turned down important offers."

The 27-year-old Senegalese defender has made over 100 appearances for Napoli since his arrival in 2014.

Should Barcelona continue to pursue Kalidou?
