2018 Golden Boy List Slashed Down To Final 60 Players

The 2018 Golden Boy’s list has been cut down to the remaining 60, with Kylian Mbappé looking to become the first player to win it twice

The race to become the 2018 Golden Boy winner has turned up a notch, with the list of potential contenders slashed by almost half.

Kylian Mbappé, who was the talking point for his exploits with France in this summer's World Cup, remains in the handful of players left on the list.

The 19-year-old, who won the award in 2017, could enter the history books by becoming the first player to win the award twice.

The Golden Boy is no throwaway award. To put it into some perspective, it's an award that's been won by players like Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba and Lionel Messi.

You can't doubt the chances for winning it are high for Mbappé, who picked up a World Cup medal and a domestic treble - Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue - with Paris Saint-Germain.

He's done that at the age of 19, which is crazy to think about when most players dream about breaking into the first team of a major club.

Mbappé might be a frontrunner, but that doesn't mean there's some tough competition facing him from other young, promising talent.

Manchester United's Diogo Dalot, Manchester City's Phil Foden and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold are those names representing the Premier League this year.

In fact, it's literally open competition and Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic and Ajax's Matthijs De Ligt are those looking to take their place in the history books as the first defender to win the award.

The 60-man list will be drastically cut down to the final 20 in November. Journalists in Europe pick the winner in December, so it's a long way away before the clear winner begins to emerge.
