Footage has re-emerged of former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney berating his teammates after conceding a goal in a 5-3 defeat to Leicester City, and many fans are wishing Harry Maguire showed that same level of passion on the pitch.

Rooney blew his top after Esteban Cambiasso's goal saw Leicester recover from 3-1 down to level the scores at 3-3, and it is clear to see his passion in this clip.

The skipper's shouting had little effect on changing the outcome of the game, as the Red Devils were ultimately beaten 5-3 thanks to Jamie Vardy's goal and Leonardo Ulloa's penalty.

United finished fourth and without a trophy in that 2014/15 season - the first of two largely disappointing campaigns under Louis van Gaal.

But Rooney gained plenty of respect from the video itself and led to the inevitable comparisons with Harry Maguire.

Fans were wishing that Maguire would show those same levels of leadership, after a series of underwhelming displays for the Red Devils.

"The fact that you're hoping to see something like this from Maguire in itself is saddening. Not a proper United player let alone captain," said @RajendraBodhak.

The replies to the tweet itself will not be pleasant reading for the current United captain, with many fans doubting his pedigree to skipper the side.

Maguire endured a torrid time on his recent return to the King Power Stadium, after Leicester tore the United defence apart in a 4-2 victory.

He was also part of the inept backline that suffered a 5-0 defeat at home to Liverpool last Sunday - a result which left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side eight points adrift of league leaders Chelsea.

Solskjaer's men are now looking for end their four-match winless run in the Premier League when they face Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
