FIFA Ban Ghanaian Referee For Life After Terrible Blunder

Referee banned from all football related activity after awful decision.

We all love to complain about referees, it's literally one of the reasons people weirdly give as defence for not having video help for the men in black. So that means we all understand how bad a decision it has to be to get a referee banned for life.

This weekend alone I can think of four big refereeing decisions that have come under fire, mostly from social media, with the men in charge probably getting all of them wrong. It's not great is it.

Anthony Taylor handing out invites to his stag do.

In fact there's been so many high profile messes this season you start wondering if all the referees are going on stag do's with each other every weekend.

With so many bad decisions floating about and so many dodgy refs, Mark Clattenburg's tattoos put him top of the list even if his actual officiating isn't that bad, you'd have to do something pretty exceptional to get a footballing life ban but that's what's happened to Joseph Lamptey.

The Ghanaian official has been banned for this shocking penalty decision in the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal on November 12, 2016:

Such a bad decision even FIFA, a dodgier organisation than the Mafia, thought it was worthy of banning

Lamptey has been banned "from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) at national and international level for life."

Any football related activity means that if you see him near a table football table, Playstation controller when FIFA is on or downloading Football Manager on his laptop then you can report him to FIFA who will lock him in footballing jail!

The match itself finished 2-1 to South Africa with Bafana Bafana scoring the opener from the world's worst penalty decisions. That win has put them join top of the World Cup qualifying group with Burkina Faso with Senegal a further point back.

Despite acknowledging just how bad a decision it was by Lamptey, FIFA say the result will still stand.

Here's the full statement from FIFA:

Just to put this all into perspective Sepp Blatter, you know that corrupt guy, is only banned from football for six years!

Bad decision yeah, but worse than anything Blatter's done? I think not!
