Bruno Fernandes has explained why he shushed Pep Guardiola in the Manchester derby last Sunday.

In his first Manchester derby appearance, the Portugal international supplied a superb assist for Anthony Martial's opening goal on the half-hour mark, which helped earn Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side their third win over Manchester City this term.

But the former Sporting CP midfielder made Man United fans love him even more when he gave it to Guardiola on the touchline.

At first it was unclear what exactly the playmaker said to the City boss and why he put his finger on his lips to the Catalan.

But in a new interview with Sky Sports, Fernandes said Guardiola angered him in the heat of the moment.

He said: "I talked about this with some friends. Some people think like, 'Pep won everything, who is Bruno to do this to him?'

"But I think this is about respect and now, outside of the pitch, calm, I don't think I do this again if I am on the pitch now.

"At that moment, the words he told me made me mad and on the pitch I am a little bit nervous and it's the kind of player I am.

"I have respect for Pep and what he did for football because he changed some mentalities but in this moment I think he didn't respect me and he doesn't deserve my respect at that moment on the pitch."

In the same interview, Fernandes also gave a rendition of the new chant United fans have come up with following his stunning start to life at Old Trafford.
