Federico Bernardeschi somehow missed an open goal against Lyon in the Champions League.

Juventus were eliminated from the Champions League on away goals as Lyon progressed to the quarter-finals on Friday.

But it could have been very different had Bernardeschi scored his glorious chance.

He brilliantly skipped past a few Lyon players before entering the box where he bamboozled goalkeeper Anthony Lopes to create an incredible opportunity to score.

However, the Italian was unable to convert his chance as Marcelo produced a truly unbelievable last-ditch tackle to prevent him from scoring.

Marcelo's heroic defending stopped the 26-year-old from scoring one of the best goals of the 2019/20 Champions League season.

Naturally, Bernardeschi's moment in front of goal sent social media wild.

One Twitter user wrote: "No I'm sorry, that's great defending and all, but it's absolutely f**king disgraceful that he missed that."

A second tweeted: "All he had to do was dink it into the roof of the net. What a chance."

A third added: "Just an absolute howler! Cost his team the win."

The Italian champions beat Lyon 2-1 on the night but lost the tie 2-2 on away goals.

The French side, who finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season, face Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
