Manchester United fans have a theory that Wayne Rooney has been secretly scoring free-kicks in the youth team after footage of Mark Helm banging in a stunning dead-ball goal begun to do the rounds.

17-year old Helm doesn't look like United's all-time record goalscorer in terms of his appearance but supporters have spotted an resemblance in the way he struck a sublime free-kick into the top corner in an Under 18 Premier League game against Leicester.

The run-up and technique is almost identical and of course the Warrington youngster was wearing Rooney's iconic No.10 shirt on his back for good measure.

This isn't the first time that United fans have compared one of their exciting youngsters to one of their former marksmen.

18-year old Mason Greenwood, who has scored two goals at Old Trafford for the first-team this season, has drawn comparisons to former striker Robin van Persie due to his near-identical touch and running style.

Rooney, meanwhile, will be back playing in England in January after signing an 18-month contract with Championship side Derby County.

The England legend's stint in the MLS with D.C United will come to an end and his £100,000-a-week deal at Pride Park will also see him work towards becoming a coach.
