Liverpool were on the receiving end of one of the most controversial VAR calls of the season in the crushing 3-1 loss to Leicester City.

The Reds went 1-0 up through Mo Salah's glorious goal but conceded an equaliser in incredibly bizarre fashion just over ten minutes later.

Initially referee Anthony Taylor appeared to give a penalty for a foul on Harvey Barnes but the decision was then reversed for a free-kick on the edge of the area.

Set-piece specialist James Maddison whipped it all the way in but the flag went up for offside as Daniel Amartey had attempted to get on the end of it.

However, further VAR confusion ensued and the goal was then given as Roberto Firmino's foot was deemed to have played Amartey onside.

The VAR lines of course came out and Liverpool fans were utterly furious with the call, which saw Leicester pull level and go on to score another two goals in a chaotic seven minutes at the King Power Stadium.

Jamie Vardy capitalised on a horrendous mix-up between debutant Ozan Kabak and goalkeeper Alisson Becker for his eighth goal against Liverpool, before Barnes sealed a sixth Premier League defeat of the season for the champions.

Liverpool are now fourth in the table, with Chelsea, West Ham and Everton breathing down their necks.
