Arsenal Fan Sets Up Petition For Europa League Final To Be Played At Wembley Stadium

An Arsenal fan has created a petition calling for the Europa League final to be played at Wembley Stadium after the absolute shit-show served up from UEFA.

On Tuesday, Arsenal officially confirmed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be part of the Gunners' travelling squad to Baku for the Europa League final against Chelsea.

It was hoped that a solution would be find for the Armenia skipper to enter the country, with UEFA saying they would support Arsenal if they looked to secure an exemption visa.

However, both Arsenal and Mkhitaryan have decided that it's best for the safety of himself and his family that he doesn't make the trip.

It's an absolute farce that in 2019 this is happening and so one fan has took it upon himself to get a petition going for the all-English final to be played at Wembley Stadium.

The description for the petition reads: "In addition to the numerous & unprecedented logistical issues that have precluded a majority of fans from both Arsenal & Chelsea from attending the Europa League Final, UEFA's decision to host the match in Baku, Azerbaijan is one that has forced Arsenal's Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan to be left out of the North London side's squad for fear of bodily harm stemming from Armenia and Azerbaijan's century-long violent conflict.

"This decision by UEFA is one that unabashedly prioritizes profit over the sanctity of the beautiful game & the safety of its players; and while recognizably unrealistic, this petition calls for UEFA to recognize the nefarious effects of their decision, & sanction of move of the Final from Baku to London's Wembley Stadium.

"By signing this petition, you will be taking a stand in solidarity with the fans of Arsenal & Chelsea, Mkhitaryan, and the game of football itself. #BoycottBaku."

So far over 2,000 people have signed up but of course it's near-impossible that UEFA change the location of the final at such short notice.

The whole thing is an absolute shambles, though. As well as Mkhitaryan, it's emerged that some British-Armenian season ticket holders are being refused entry into the country.

What's more, a mere 6,000 tickets have each been given to Chelsea and Arsenal supporters and they are struggling to sell them as literally no-one fancies the trip. You can't blame them, to be honest.

As per the BBC, there are currently no direct scheduled flights between London and Baku in the week of the showpiece, meaning the only decent option available at the moment is to get a direct flight from London on Saturday 25 May, with the game taking place four days later.
