A football fan has mocked Arsenal by setting up a 'relegation party' event on Facebook after the Gunners' dismal start to the Premier League season.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is under intense pressure as the London club languishes in 15th place going into Christmas.

The Gunners, who are on 14 points, have only managed four wins, drawn twice and lost eight times in the Premier League this season.

And now one fan, Dave Newson, has set up a relegation party for Arsenal on Facebook.

The 'party,' which is open to the public, already has 18 fans registering their interest in 'going,' with another 16 'interested' in attending.

Newson wrote in the event's description: "Let's celebrate the gooners [sic] going down at any pub near you."

Arteta stunned many fans after he recently pulled out a raft of statistics to defend Arsenal's results in the league.

The 38-year-old Spaniard said: "When you look at the perspective of how we are losing football matches and how we are where we are, it is pretty incredible.

"Last year we won against Everton with a 25 per cent chance of winning, you win 3-2.

"Last weekend [against Everton] it was a 67 per cent chance of winning and a nine per cent chance of losing, and you lose.

"And three per cent against Burnley and you lose, seven per cent against Spurs, and you lose. If you are constantly in the 60s and 70s long-term, you are going to win many more matches and this is what we have to try to do."

Arsenal will return to action today at 8pm UK time against Manchester City in their League Cup quarter-final clash.

The Gunners will resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday as they welcome London rivals Chelsea to the Emirates.
