It's been on the cards for a while but Sunderland have been officially relegated from the Championship today.

Chris Coleman's side were 1-0 up against relegation rivals Burton Albion through Paddy McNair and looked to be surviving for another week.

However, former player Darren Bent equalised four minutes from time before Liam Boyce added a stoppage time winner for the visitors, 23rd in the table but still with a fighting chance of staying up

The Black Cats thought they had levelled in the dying embers when the ball was bundled over the line but it was ruled out by the referee.

With Burton and Bolton, who occupy the final relegation spot, playing each other next Saturday and Sunderland only having two games to play, they will now be playing Accrington Stanley away in the third tier next season.
