A drugs lord hailing from Merseyside has bagged a job at Jamie Carragher's academy after walking free from prison.

Paul Walmsley was once one of the top five most wanted criminals in Britain, as part of the 'Costa crooks', the Serious Organised Crime Agency had suspicions he had fled to Spain. He then handed himself in to Merseyside Police following a £3.5m drugs bust.

On Monday, he was a free man and appears adamant that he is a reformed character - evidenced in his latest career opportunity upon being released by prison. He spent five years behind bars and has now been offered a job as a lecturer at the Jamie Carragher Sports and Learning Academy following on from doing voluntary work as part of a scheme where offenders work in the community.

Walmsley spoke at a recent International Festival of Business event and talked openly about how his experience in prison has helped him grow as a person as re-enters society.

He said:

"Anyone who's been in prison has a lot to prove, both to themselves and the people who've stuck by them. A lot of prisoners have qualities that make them a real asset to business. We've got determination, know-how, and nous, we've got great problem-solving skills and we think on our feet and businesses have the opportunity to go into prisons and handpick people. I've transformed my life, I've written a book, I've won awards and I know that I'm an asset to the business that I'm joining - and this is not a unique situation, there are many, many people that I've left behind who are just like me."
