‘Jonny Evans Is A Better Defender Than Harry Maguire,’ Says Former Arsenal Player Adrian Clarke

Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire is "overpriced by around £25m at least," according to ex-Gunners man Adrian Clarke.

Former Arsenal midfielder Adrian Clarke thinks Harry Maguire wasn't even the best defender at Leicester before he left.

Manchester United have signed the England centre-back for a massive £80m fee on a six-year deal from the Foxes.

But Clarke, 44, has made a bold statement that Maguire's former Leicester teammate Jonny Evans is better than him.

"He is overpriced by around £25m at least, if not more than that," he told talkSPORT.

"I see him as a good defender, but I certainly don't see him as a great defender.

"I'd even argue that Jonny Evans, the man Manchester United disposed of and the man he was partnering last year at Leicester, is a better defender than Harry Maguire."

Maguire has been linked with United over the summer and became Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's third summer signing, following the Red Devils' capture of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

Maguire said: ""I am delighted to have signed for this great club.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leicester and would like to thank everyone at the club and the fans for their fantastic support over the past two seasons.

"However, when Manchester United come knocking on your door, it is an incredible opportunity.

"It's clear to see that Ole is building a team to win trophies. I am now looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting the season started."

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers praised the England international for his professionalism during the whole transfer saga.

"He's a top-class player, a special player and a good man," the ex-Liverpool and Celtic manager said.

"He knows there's been interest and he's been super professional."

Solskjaer has hinted that Maguire could start for United in their first match of the season against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The deal for the English centre-back will be a world-record fee for a defender, eclipsing the £75m Liverpool splashed out on Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

Will Maguire be successful at Old Trafford?
