It wasn't going to be long before Harry Winks was linked with a big footballing giant, was it?

The 21-year old came through the ranks at the North London club and made his professional debut in 2014, under Mauricio Pochettino.

He only made a further two appearances the following season, but played in a total of 33 games last season in all competitions.

But it's this season that he's gone up another gear, playing 10 times and well and truly breaking into the Spurs side as a regular - displacing the likes of Mousa Dembele on occasion. His fine performances at club level led to him making a tidy debut for England last month, and he now looks set to be a regular in Gareth Southgate's squad.

And in both Champions League games against Real Madrid, the 1-1 draw and the thrilling 3-1 win over Wembley on Wednesday, he was outstanding against the reigning European Champions.

As per the Evening Standard, Barcelona director Robert Fernandez was in attendance, watching goalscorer Christian Eriksen, but is said to have been wholly impressed by the mature midfield masterclass served up by Winks.

Winks, a boyhood Spurs fan, is perfectly happy at Spurs and harbours hopes of winning the league with the club. He was one of a plethora of players to sign a new deal at Spurs in recent times, putting pen to paper on a new contract to 2022 back in February.

The Barca talk is of course wildly premature at this point but it speaks volumes of just well he's been playing this season, and the potential he has in the future.
