Euro 2016 Winner vs Copa America Winner Could Be Happening

Winner takes it all!

The ultimate international match could take place sometime between this summer and next after the president of Conmebol, the South American football association, challenged UEFA to a winner takes it all match.

Of course as anyone who has seen the Champions League final winner congratulated by FIFA will know the only point of that competition is to qualify for the World Club Cup the next season, or at least that's what FIFA would like us to care about.

And it's in that same vein Conmebol have challenged UEFA. Alejandro Dominguez wants the winner of this summer's Copa America, which will either be Argentina or Chile, to face off against the winner of the Euros to decide who will play in next summer's Confederations Cup.

The Confederations Cup is the warm up tournament to the World Cup held a year before in the country that the World Cup will take place so next summer it will be in Russia. It includes the hosts, the World Cup holders, Asian Cup winner, Copa America winners, Concacaf winners, OFC Nations Cup winners, Euro winners and African Cup of Nations winners.

So why the need for the potential play-off? Well because of this year's 100 year centenary celebration Copa America there's been two running of the competition and only the 2015 winners are going to the Confed cup. So Dominguez clearly wants both sides through, although that could be Chile twice in which case Chile would face whoever it is on Argentina's behalf.

We love the idea of the game between the Euro winners and the Copa America winners but we don't care about the Confederations Cup place.
