Ethan Ampadu Bizarrely Shown Red Card For Perfect Clean Tackle On Franck Ribery

Ethan Ampadu was shown a hugely controversial red card in Venezia's league clash against Salernitana on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old is on loan at the Serie A club from Chelsea this season.

He made his fourth league appearance of the campaign on Tuesday, but his outing lasted a mere seven minutes.

Ampadu entered the fray as a second half substitute with the score 1-1.

The Welshman received his marching orders just seven minutes after coming on, with the match referee making a contentious decision.

A pass was played to Ampadu who let the ball run through his legs.

Franck Ribery attempted to pounce to steal the ball, but the versatile youngster made a brilliant last-ditch tackle. At least that's what it seemed.

Ribery went down in theatrical fashion, with the referee blowing for a foul before showing Ampadu a straight red card.

What's more, the incident even went to VAR.

Needless to say, Ampadu's tackle sent social media wild.

One joked: "If that's a red card then Kante would get sent off every game he plays lmao."

A second tweeted: "Maldini's entire legacy is based on challenges like those. What a joke."

A third added: "It's not even a foul."

The decision to send off Ampadu proved crucial as Salernitana went onto win the match 2-1 after scoring a last-gasp winner.
